Question 1

What is PuckReady?

Accepted Answer

PuckReady is a comprehensive resource for finding hockey programs, camps, and training across Manitoba. We help parents discover the right program for their child's age, skill level, and goals.

Question 2

What does PuckReady cost?

Accepted Answer

PuckReady is free for parents to use. A program price is shown when the organizer supplies it; otherwise, follow the official source or contact the organizer to confirm the current cost.

Question 3

How are programs reviewed and rated?

Accepted Answer

PuckReady does not currently publish public star ratings or parent-review scores. Listings are curated and checked against public sources where possible, but source checking is not a quality rating, guarantee, or endorsement.

Question 4

How can I contact a program?

Accepted Answer

Organizer email and phone details appear when the organizer supplies them. If they are not listed, use the official website or source link and confirm registration, price, and schedule directly with the organizer.

Question 5

What's the difference between house league and rep hockey?

Accepted Answer

House League is recreational hockey with less intense competition and focus on fun and fundamentals. Rep/Competitive hockey involves higher skill requirements, more practices, and competitive games. Both are important parts of player development.

Question 6

What does "All Levels" mean for a program?

Accepted Answer

Programs marked "All Levels" accept players regardless of their competitive tier (house league, rep, AA, AAA). These are often skills development or power skating programs that benefit players at any level.

Question 7

When should I register for programs?

Accepted Answer

Registration timing varies by program. Seasonal rep and house league teams usually register in spring (May-June) for fall. Summer camps typically open registrations in spring. Check individual program websites for specific dates.

Question 8

Should my child specialize in hockey only, or play multiple sports?

Accepted Answer

Multi-sport development is recommended, especially before U16. Playing multiple sports improves overall athleticism, reduces injury risk from overuse, and keeps hockey enjoyable longer. Elite players often come from multi-sport backgrounds. Specialization should be a choice based on your child's goals and passion, not a requirement. Many successful NCAA and professional players played 2-3 sports growing up.

Question 9

What's the "Relative Age Effect" in hockey?

Accepted Answer

The Relative Age Effect means children born earlier in the calendar year (January-April) are often bigger and more physically mature during youth hockey, leading to overrepresentation in elite teams. This advantage disappears by adulthood but can influence early selection. Late-birth children shouldn't be discouraged - many professional and college players were "late bloomers." Focus on your child's individual development rather than age-based comparisons.
